Thornton Tomasetti, Inc., seeks Senior Project Engineers - Structure in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations.
  • Interacts with clients and team members regarding project information.
  • Sets clear direction and delegates tasks to others.
  • Provides guidance to team members regarding design standards, design technique, and quality.
  • Analyzes building structures (e.g., load, wind, gravity, and geometry).
  • Interprets building codes.
  • Determines project, design and construction specifications (e.g., structural systems, beam size, column size, etc.).
  • Guides/assists other engineers regarding issues such as codes, deflection criteria, and software.
  • Covers preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff.
  • Back checks each step of the project to ensure quality and standards.
  • Ensures that project undergoes standard quality assurance activities including design reviews, documentation checks, and design checks.
  • Makes sure project progresses with respect to staffing.
  • Makes sure project stays financially healthy.
  • Performs construction administration services on assigned projects.
  • Tracks and reviews structural submittals during construction phase.
  • Responds to RFIs (Request for Information) from contractors and subcontractors.
  • Organizes and maintains logs and files for structural submittal.
  • Attends construction meetings and visits job-site at major stages and phases.
  • Communicates with contractors.
  • Prepares field reports for clients.
  • Performs site-observation for projects as assigned.
  • Mentors other employees on various design techniques, design standards, codes and software applications.
  • Develops drawings and spreadsheets to create new standards.
  • Attends weekly practice staff meetings.
  • Aids in writing proposals.
  • Prepares internal training presentations and other learning content as assigned.
  • Recruits potential new hires.
  • Acts responsibly to conserve energy and reduce waste in the office environment.
  • Promotes Thornton Tomasetti's services and reputation in the local and/or national markets by participating in appropriate industry, professional, and community organizations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field plus 2 years of experience in a related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with the following:
    • Utilizing structural analysis software;
    • Working with spreadsheet or MathCAD style calculation tools/software;
    • Working with Bluebeam to create markups on structural drawings;
    • Utilizing Revit 3D BIM software, including developing drawings and details for schematic design, design development, and construction document phases of projects;
    • Utilizing technical writing to prepare structural engineering memoranda and reports related to technical work and expertise;
    • Performing structural analysis and design of steel and reinforced concrete structures;
    • Preparing structural calculations and plans for schematic design, design development and construction documents;
    • Preparing structural calculations and plans for schematic design, design development and construction documents.

Qualifications

  • Requires 5% domestic travel.
  • Telecommuting and/or working from home may be permissible pursuant to company policies.
  • When not telecommuting, must report to work site.
  • 40 hours/week.
  • Must also have authority to work permanently in the U.S.

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software and related tools.
  • Experience with BIM software and Revit.
  • Technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Pay

Salary range: $80,000 - $120,000 annually.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week.
