Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects; resolve problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Plan and develop projects or design activities
  • Plan, organize and supervise work of medium to large staff of professionals and technicians
  • Serve as Project Manager on larger projects, though project management is not sole focus of position
  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team from schematic design through the design development and contract document phases of a project
  • Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team (architecture, MEP engineering, civil engineering, etc.) to lead the production of the structural deliverables for projects
  • Mentor and train structural interns and EITs within the department and across business groups
  • Coordinate workload throughout the design phases to complete the documents on schedule
  • Perform construction administration (CA) tasks such as submittal review, respond to requests for information (RFI’s) and other coordination tasks with contractors in the field during construction
  • Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years structural engineering experience as it relates to building design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license
  • Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar analytical software
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry and wood
  • Requires understanding of gravity analysis and lateral analysis
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering, Structural emphasis
  • Experience with Structural Engineering or projects serving Water and Wastewater Clients
  • A minimum of 10+ years of structural engineering experience preferred
