Senior Structural Engineer 2 - Nuclear
About the role
This senior engineering position offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering, providing an excellent chance to advance your career. You will collaborate with a team of structural engineers, interface with engineers from other disciplines, and guide less experienced project team members.
As part of the structural engineering team, you will work on projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades or modifications to nuclear power plants, focusing on:
- Applying your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design
- Preparing and reviewing design calculations, developing specifications, and supporting designers with drawing development
- Guiding others in the development of engineering deliverables
Using state-of-the-art computer tools, you will perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations. There is potential for travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers on nuclear facility projects
- Perform structural analysis and design using advanced software tools
- Prepare and review design calculations and specifications
- Support drawing development and guide less experienced team members
- Lead the application of data, automation, and AI tools to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
- Direct automation and process-improvement initiatives, such as automating calculations or generating design documentation
- Oversee engineers using programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks
- Travel to client sites, vendor offices, or plant locations as needed for design reviews and construction coordination
Requirements
- BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Seven or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of structures
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS
- Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness and ability to lead others in using modern tools like automation and AI to solve engineering problems
Preferred Qualifications
- MSCE degree
- Experience with design and analysis of power plant and/or industrial structures
- On-site construction support experience
- PE or SE license
- Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel)

Pay
Compensation range: $100,019 - $152,807 per year. Eligible positions may also participate in a yearly discretionary bonus.
