About the role
The position involves leading and overseeing design tasks for municipal, state and federal clients on transportation and civil/site projects. Design work includes drainage and stormwater systems, erosion and sediment control strategies, and comprehensive civil/site design solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform civil site design and analysis (grading, drainage, site layout).
- Stormwater Management - Design drainage systems, develop drainage reports, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), perform hydrologic analyses, open channel hydraulics and bridge hydraulics calculations, cost estimates and technical specifications.
- Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., Open Roads Design, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work.
- Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on various engineering, design, and construction issues.
- Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Absorb and implement new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
- High proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Experience with discipline-specific design software: Open Roads Design (ORD), MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis, and arrive at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Uphold workplace safety and abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or closely related discipline. Masters degree preferred.
- 5-7+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior civil design experience.
- Professional Licensure (PE).
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Experience with stormwater infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including rehabilitation and new design.
- Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
- Capable interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
