About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Senior Staff Systems Engineer to join our Automation and Surveillance team. This role involves designing, deploying, integrating, tuning, and commissioning advanced ATM systems. The position offers opportunities for international travel, diverse engineering experiences, and collaboration with global customers. The engineer will support ATM projects for several airports in Australia.

Responsibilities

  • Understand customer requirements (including safety and security standards) and decompose them to generate system designs, architectures, hardware, and software requirements.
  • Perform design analysis and trade studies.
  • Lead small, interdisciplinary teams to develop detailed designs and technical/programmatic artifacts.
  • Develop technical documentation and presentation materials for design reviews.
  • Lead programmatic and technical discussions with customers.
  • Integrate, configure, and test systems in the factory and deployed environments.
  • Collaborate with customers, prime contractors, and subcontractors to integrate systems and subsystems.
  • Analyze and reduce large datasets to quantify system performance, investigate anomalies, and develop solutions.
  • Support proposal activities by analyzing requirements, assessing compliance/NRE, providing cost and schedule input, and editing technical material.
  • Utilize and improve existing Saab processes, policies, and products.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, or computer science from an accredited institution or relevant military education and training.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Opportunity for international travel (up to 10%).
  • Computer programming experience in a high-level language such as Matlab, C/C++, Java, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Demonstrated personal time management, planning, and organizing skills.
  • Technical project planning skills, including providing cost and schedule estimates.
  • Drive to take ownership of project execution.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, Permanent Resident (green card holder), or protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).

Desired Expertise

  • Knowledge of Air Traffic Surveillance and Control systems, including international ATC terminology, standards, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Familiarity with IP networks, including firewalls.

Skills

  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify, understand, and proactively manage risks.
  • Effective communication (written and verbal), including presenting to technical and non-technical colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to generate high-quality technical documentation, including architecture documents, test plans, procedures, reports, and white papers.
  • Interest in international travel and ability to work with technical counterparts from different countries and cultures.

Pay

$132,000 - $171,600. The compensation range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Saab considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Saab is a federal government contractor and adheres to policies necessary for sustaining drug-free workplaces. As a condition of employment, candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
