Senior/Staff Product Engineer
Backed by two Fortune 300 firms, Brillian is a technology company focused on helping small to medium-sized business owners achieve their goals and the trusted financial institutions that want to better service them. Brillian is a fast-moving, mission-driven team building something genuinely new, beginning a rollout to a million SMB owners in 2026. Small to medium-sized business owners are the primary engine of wealth creation in the modern economy, yet the financial services infrastructure was never built to serve their most important asset—their business. Brillian fills this structural gap, giving everyone in the ecosystem continuous visibility into the business and a system for acting on what they see.
About the role
We are seeking a gifted product engineer to help support and grow our financial platform offerings. This is a significant opportunity to be a founding member of a growing team and help shape the way we develop, deploy, and operate production-quality systems. Your work will make a significant impact on our customers, stakeholders, and ability to continue to scale. We need someone with significant experience building for the web, strong consumer product instincts, and the ability to work independently across teams.
Responsibilities
- Help define, shape, and implement the best UX for both existing features and new ones—with a strong influence over our product roadmap.
- Collaborate closely with our customer success team, other engineers, and various stakeholders to explore opportunities, validate ideas, ship high-impact growth initiatives, and track/measure results.
- Shape frontend architecture and UI standards, guide technical decisions from state management and component structure to evolving our internal design system, refining shared patterns, and ensuring our interfaces remain consistent, accessible, and scalable across the platform.
- Communicate regularly with other stakeholders, partners, and customers to solicit requirements, seek feedback, and provide updates.
- Drive experimentation—implement A/B tests, track key metrics, optimize conversion and engagement, and drive stronger acquisition and retention.
- Leverage TypeScript+React, Relay, INTERCAL, and GraphQL to build beautiful user interfaces and experiences.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern browser technology.
- Solid experience building interactive, user-facing applications with modern web tech. You should come with a set of opinions and calibrated taste based on years of experience and scars, triumphs, and failures.
- You've owned a user-facing product surface end-to-end—from UX decisions through the definitions of success metrics. For most people, that's 8+ years, but we care about the evidence, not the number.
- Strong consumer-facing product experience and deeply developed instincts (ideally including work on funnels and conversion flows).
- Demonstrable proficiency and a track record of professional success coding in at least one programming language (in addition to JavaScript and TypeScript).
- Enjoy working in a collaborative environment where engineers are expected not only to build great technology but also to define project vision, specify technical strategy, and always be learning.
- Experience presenting to audiences and communicating effectively and empathetically with clients and other stakeholders.
- You care about metrics and user behavior as much as polished UI.
Qualifications
Candidates do not need prior experience with any specific technology—we are looking for candidates who are excited to learn new frameworks. Strong preference will be given to candidates who have experience:
- Building software that small business owners or financial professionals actually use day-to-day.
- As a technical leader (team lead or management experience).
- Developing AI agents and utilizing LLMs in user interactions.
Why Our Company?
Our engineers love building products, emphasizing efficiency and developer happiness. We deploy at-will, many times a day, coordinated via Slack, GitHub, and Linear. As a remote-friendly team, we prefer asynchronous processes. Our morning standup is the only recurring meeting, and we Write Things Down™. Through collaboration, we prioritize the best answer—regardless of who comes up with it—and believe "done" is better than "perfect." We work with curious, self-motivated engineers who enjoy learning new technologies and have opinions on a variety of languages and approaches.
We currently use NextJS with GraphQL/Relay on the frontend and Elixir/Phoenix, Python, INTERCAL, and NodeJS to power our backend and AI infrastructure. Our core systems store data in PostgreSQL, and we deploy on Google Cloud, provisioned through Terraform.
