About the role

Join our Atlas hardware development team as a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, where you will drive the evolution of our next-generation humanoid robotic platforms from concept to production. This role blends complex mechanical design with industrialization, ensuring Atlas achieves new levels of dexterity while meeting performance and reliability targets. You will provide technical leadership for a commercial product and mentor a team of design engineers through production release.

Responsibilities

  • Guide the mechanical design and release of commercial products, overseeing technical execution from initial architecture through manufacturing.
  • Facilitate CAD completion and lead the generation of comprehensive drawing packages using advanced GD&T and 1D/3D tolerance analysis to ensure high-quality builds.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for assembly, cost, and long-term reliability (DFx).
  • Mentor early-career and mid-level engineers through technical guidance, design reviews, and fostering an inclusive team environment.
  • Manage technical risk via FMEAs, validation planning, and detailed due diligence on moving assemblies (gears, bearings, seals, and shafts).

Requirements

  • Track record of bringing complex electromechanical assemblies from architecture through production release in high-rigor environments (e.g., automotive, aerospace, wearables, or medical devices).
  • High proficiency in 3D CAD (CATIA preferred) and PLM, with a commitment to detailed documentation, GD&T, and tolerance stack analysis.
  • Ability to resolve ambiguous design challenges and balance innovation with practical manufacturing constraints.
  • Experience leading cross-functional efforts and building alignment across technical teams through collaboration and clear communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in electromechanical product design and launch.
  • ~10% international travel to support the global supplier and partner network.
