Senior / Staff Engineer, Mechanical

Reports to the Superintendent, Mechanical and serves as the technical steward for fixed equipment, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, and mechanical systems. Accountable for supporting maintenance and improving these systems, including all associated documentation.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the Static Equipment and Mechanical Systems technical specialist, providing support to keep plant systems safe and operational.
• Utilizes sound engineering practices to guide and apply plant standards and specifications, developing cost-effective solutions for engineering issues.
• Ensures proper maintenance of documentation for Static Equipment and Mechanical systems and provides guidance on documentation standards.
• Participates in the Management of Change process.
• Develops and utilizes computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks and develop documentation.
• Provides technical support for maintenance planning and maintenance teams.
• Assists maintenance and operations groups on reliability issues, creating quality solutions for problems.
• Serves as a plant liaison on Static Equipment and Mechanical System engineering issues, including risk engineering, system integrity, and compliance with specifications, philosophies, and standards.
• Provides technical support by interpreting codes, standards, and regulations related to equipment.
• Coordinates and develops proposals for plant improvements, including design basis and preliminary estimates and budgets for capital projects.
• Provides technical guidance during development and construction, supporting the Project Manager to minimize project-related spending overruns.
• Develops working relationships with other department personnel to add value to each job completed.
• Reinforces awareness of safety and environmental incidents through job observations.
• Ensures development or collection of information in support of permit requirements as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
• Senior Engineer: Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in an industrial setting in engineering, operations, maintenance, or related technical function. LNG facility experience is preferred; petrochemical, NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or other hydrocarbon processing experience is acceptable.
• Staff Engineer: Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in an industrial setting in engineering, operations, maintenance, or related technical function. LNG facility experience is strongly preferred; petrochemical, NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or other hydrocarbon processing experience may be acceptable.

Skills

• Applies general knowledge of LNG production, transportation, storage, and loading, including health, safety, maintenance, operations, governmental regulations, and associated codes and standards.
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of Static Equipment and Mechanical Systems, national codes, standards, and regulations, and their implementation in operating facilities.
• Strong leadership and technical abilities with an acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries, and governmental agencies.

Work Conditions

• Job is performed in an industrial plant environment.
• Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours, or on weekends.
• Limited travel required as business conditions dictate.
• Subject to drug and alcohol testing per applicable federal regulations.
• While performing duties, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, smell, type, and write.
• Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladders up to forty feet or more in height, and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work environment includes indoor and outdoor settings, exposure to year-round weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise.
• Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
• Required to obtain mandated certification by attending company-sponsored training in basic first aid and CPR.
• Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status.
