About the Role

The Senior Staff Electrical Engineer will participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) project teams, lead hardware design and development for new product controls, contribute to the development of the controls (SMART) strategy and roadmap, and execute the controls roadmap.

This role reports to the Controls Engineering Manager within the Global Engineering Department and involves significant interaction with cross-functional teams, third-party vendors, contractors, sales representatives, and end-user customers.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in NPI project teams as the Electrical representative and lead NPI electrical projects, providing technical support through the following activities:
    • Translate product requirements and specifications into controls hardware design requirements and documentation that meet functional needs, quality, and cost targets.
    • Propose and present optimal electrical solutions for each NPI controls specification.
    • Design systems to control fan motors, pumps, valves, safety switches, heating elements, sensors, and other features requiring data communication into and out of BAC units for interaction with customer building management systems and cloud-based systems.
    • Develop electrical system verification and validation plans and execute them.
  • Serve as the primary interface with UL for units undergoing testing and certification.
  • Partner with product platform teams and controls panel suppliers to create panel drawings, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and system configurators.
  • Independently evaluate and qualify vendors and technical proposals to achieve cost and quality targets for Controls projects.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions to communicate and align on electrical technical decisions.
  • Define and document "best practice" rules for hardware development based on lessons learned from Controls projects.
  • Establish testing procedures, define pass criteria for electrical systems, participate in lab testing, and analyze test data to optimize product performance.
  • Promote standardization across business functions for hardware development and testing on controls systems.
  • Identify and implement product improvements and cost-reduction opportunities through NPI or sustaining projects.
  • Write Electrical-related Engineering Change Notices (ECN) to communicate design or documentation changes.
  • Support field issues and work to meet customer expectations.
  • Prepare and present technical training on electrical topics to all organizational levels.
  • Propose and present electrical strategy and implementation plans to Technology/Product Strategy planning teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve electrical development velocity and quality.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory codes and standards such as IEC, NEC, UL, FM, and associated electrical codes in global markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline; MS or PEng certification preferred.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with technical project management, including a minimum of 5 years in electrical cabinet design.
  • UL508A MTR certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience developing electro-mechanical control systems; HVAC control systems experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in technical writing, including electrical specifications, test plans, and execution.
  • Familiarity with integrated communications via building management system (BMS) protocols such as BACNet and Modbus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Agile work management systems (e.g., Jira/DevOps) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in laboratory testing processes, including instrumentation and measurement techniques.

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand and walk up to 50% of the time.
  • Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10% of the time.

Pay

BAC Hiring Compensation Range: $90,000 to $154,100.

Eligible to participate in an annual bonus incentive program.
