Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to provide deep technical leadership across multiple teams and drive the design and execution of complex, cross-cutting engineering initiatives. As a Staff engineer you will be a key technical voice in shaping architecture, raising the engineering bar, and helping the organization deliver ambitious technical roadmaps. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical depth with strong organizational judgment, and will be comfortable operating at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and hands-on execution. In this role you will work closely with cross-functional partners — product, design, engineering, operations, and business stakeholders — to translate ambiguous requirements into well-engineered solutions, and will be expected to raise the bar through code review, design review, and mentorship of more junior engineers. The successful candidate brings strong engineering discipline, a clear communication style, and a track record of shipping meaningful work that holds up well in production. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and execution of large, complex, cross-team engineering initiativesDevelop architectural standards and reference patterns adopted across multiple engineering teamsMentor senior engineers and influence the technical direction of the organizationLead detailed technical design reviews and architectural decision-making for high-impact initiatives, ensuring designs are well-scoped, trade-offs are made explicit, and outcomes are documented for future referenceOperate at the intersection of strategy and execution, translating long-term goals into concrete engineering plansDrive significant improvements in reliability, scalability, and performance of critical platformsLead production incident response and post-incident learning for major issuesPartner with engineering managers, product, and executives on technical roadmapsSet and uphold the engineering hiring bar through technical interviews, structured calibration, and contributions to recruiting initiatives that grow the team without diluting qualityContribute hands-on code where most leveraged, focusing on high-impact componentsDrive engineering culture, including code quality, documentation, and operational rigorRepresent engineering in cross-functional planning, prioritization, and roadmap discussions, helping product, design, and business stakeholders make informed decisions grounded in real technical trade-offsAuthor and review technical RFCs, architecture decision records, and design documents that crystallize key technical decisions and create durable institutional memory across the engineering organization Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related disciplineEight or more years of professional software engineering experienceProven track record of leading complex, cross-team engineering initiativesDeep expertise in at least one of distributed systems, cloud platforms, or large-scale data systemsStrong programming skills in at least one major backend languageExcellent system-design and architecture skillsDemonstrated mentorship and technical leadership of senior engineersStrong understanding of operational excellence, reliability, and observabilityExcellent written and verbal communication skillsTrack record of influencing engineering culture and standards Preferred Qualifications Experience driving multi-year platform modernization initiativesPublic technical contributions (talks, papers, OSS) in relevant areasHands-on experience operating large-scale production systemsExposure to building engineering organizations as well as platformsFamiliarity with FinOps and cost-aware engineering practices How to Apply Would you like to know more about this opportunity?
