Senior/Staff Design Engineer

About the role

We're seeking a Design Engineer to enhance the interaction quality, motion, and polish across our product. This role involves direct collaboration with designers and engineers, focusing on high-impact work from ideation to launch. The Design Engineer will embed across product teams, supporting the creation of interaction-rich experiences, defining motion and interaction standards, and auditing and improving production UI.

Responsibilities

• Embed across various product teams to support high-impact work, partnering with designers and engineers from ideation to launch.
• Prototype and build interaction-rich experiences that bring design concepts to life in production.
• Collaborate with product designers and product managers to identify opportunities and explore solutions.
• Define motion and interaction standards that scale across the product.
• Proactively identify and execute on opportunities that raise the overall quality bar for visual polish, interaction, and frontend craft across the company.
• Audit and improve production UI by identifying and fixing visual bugs, inconsistencies, and interaction gaps.
• Contribute to design system improvements in partnership with design and the frontend platform team.

Requirements

• 5+ years of frontend or UX engineering experience, ideally in consumer or product-focused companies.
• Excellent sense of visual and interaction design, with an eye for spacing, typography, motion, and delightful details.
• Experience collaborating closely with designers throughout the entire product development process.
• Ability to prototype quickly and translate ambiguous ideas into tangible interfaces.
• Experience building scalable component libraries, design systems, or reusable UI frameworks.
• Fluency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript, Next, React, CSS systems, and component architecture.
• Understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and web performance considerations.
• Systems mindset, seeing patterns, simplifying complexity, and designing for long-term reuse.
• Strong communication skills and ability to influence product direction and UI standards.
• Passion for building delightful, consumer-grade user experiences.
• Founder’s mindset - ownership, speed, scrappiness, resilience, bias toward action.

Pay

The base compensation range for this position is: $182,000–$250,000 USD Annually.

Schedule

This role is hybrid, with commitment to either NYC, San Francisco, or Seattle hub locations. The base compensation varies depending on several factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, and the candidate's working location.
