Job Summary
The Guest Experience team at Airbnb is seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist to lead innovation efforts in identifying and evaluating guest preferences in our app. This role involves building data products to enhance guest conversion and engagement across various business verticals.
About the Role
As a Senior Staff Data Scientist, you will be responsible for leading the development of methodologies to understand user behavior, detect underlying intent, and build data products for a compelling and personalized guest experience. You will collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to optimize in-app features and shape UX design architecture.
Responsibilities
- Develop deep understanding of guest navigation and re-engagement patterns via analysis and research.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering to drive technical frameworks and science leadership for innovative paradigms in detecting revealed preferences and quantifying online frictions.
- Write code for prototypes to identify guest preferences using AI toolkits and iteratively develop data frameworks, models, and artefacts.
- Evaluate assumptions and efficacy of guest preferences through measurement and validating hypotheses linked to online guest actions and engagement.
- Set up experiments and data feedback loops to ensure continuous impact and influence findings and recommendations on leadership audiences.
Requirements
- Causal inference expertise with marketplace experience.
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Econometrics, or related field.
- 9+ years of industry experience with a PhD (or 12+ years with a Masters).
- Strong communication skills with XFN partners in product, engineering, and design.
- Expertise in at least one programming language for data analysis (Python or R) with familiarity in SQL.
- Comfort with developing proof-of-concept prototypes.
- Passionate about AI and possessing a learner's mindset towards LLMs and dynamic systems.
- Proven ability to succeed in both collaborative and independent work environments.
- Demonstrated willingness and track record of engagement with the technical community.
Qualifications
- Domain expertise in search, UX discovery, and personalized evidence systems.
- Experience in a marketplace setting preferred.
