Senior Staff Backend Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure
About the Role
As a Senior Staff Backend Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure, you will focus on enhancing Cloud infrastructure reliability, system efficiencies, productivity, availability, scalability, and system quality at 10X scale. This role involves diving deep into business problems, understanding customer pain points, and collaborating with engineering teams to design and architect new systems and services leveraging cloud infrastructure. You will provide system architecture artifacts, guide cloud infrastructure choices, and ensure solutions perform and scale efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Develop self-service code and end-to-end cloud deployment automation for application stacks.
- Provide a roadmap and vision for scalable and robust growth of cloud infrastructure to achieve 99.999% availability.
- Analyze and recommend improvements for network, infrastructure, and cloud services (e.g., role management, CDN, domains, security).
- Design and maintain highly reliable, scalable cloud architecture and platform services.
- Solve complex technical problems in public (AWS, Azure, GCP) and private cloud environments to improve operational excellence.
- Optimize performance and automate processes in complex distributed production deployments.
- Identify opportunities for disruptive improvements in cloud infrastructure usage, operations, and services through systematic automation.
- Exert technical influence over multiple teams to increase productivity by sharing deep knowledge and experience.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and lead engineers on mission-critical projects.
- Provide expert guidance on performance (sub-millisecond latencies), scalability, availability (99.999% uptime), and enterprise architecture best practices.
Requirements
- Strong experience with Cloud DevOps tools and coding (CI/CD, IaC, Terraform, Python, CloudFormation, Ansible, GitHub, CircleCI, Jenkins, and infrastructure automation).
- Strong working experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, and cloud services integrations.
- Expert knowledge in building and operating high-performance, highly-available, and scalable distributed systems in the cloud.
- Hands-on experience leading system design and architecture leveraging AWS or Azure services.
- Demonstrable experience building and managing infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Experience in building and managing high-performance, highly-available, and scalable hybrid cloud environments.
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail.
- Excellent cross-group collaboration, verbal, and written communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
- 15+ years of strong hands-on experience in cloud platform engineering.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in system engineering, Cloud DevOps, and Cloud SRE.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience leading system design and architecture leveraging AWS or Azure services.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience building and operating infrastructure as code (IaC).
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in building high-performance, highly-available, and scalable distributed systems in the cloud.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in building and managing hybrid cloud environments.
- AWS Certification in Advance Architecting or Developing on AWS is a plus.
- Strong hands-on experience automating app stack deployments through IaC using Terraform, Python, or Go.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer.
- Team leadership experience.
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of total experience, with the ability to solve problems through creative thinking and partnerships.
Pay
The base pay for this position ranges from $174,000/year to $299,000/year, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Annual bonus ranges from 0-20% of the base salary.
