Department: HVAMC/Innovation Center – Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center (HVAMC)

About the role

The State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz and The Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center (HVAMC) invites applications for a part-time Senior Staff Assistant. This position will work under the Director and the Lead Researcher of the HVAMC, providing 3D design and print services for internal constituents—students, faculty, and staff—as well as the wider community and regional businesses. The role supports daily operations across academic, production, design, and administrative functions, ensuring efficient workflow, timely project completion, and high-quality service.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director and Lead Researcher to ensure a safe work environment and oversee undergraduate and graduate students working in the lab.
  • Respond to design and print inquiries via phone and email from campus and the wider community, providing 3D design and printing services.
  • Produce CAD files for external clients and as needed for HVAMC functions.
  • Ensure HVAMC equipment is maintained, operational, and the lab is organized.
  • Maintain inventory of materials, parts, and PPE; keep MDSD/SDS up to date.
  • Perform administrative work as required, e.g., purchase orders, work orders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience designing in a CAD software (Rhino preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience working with and maintaining FDM and PolyJet printers.
  • Technical know-how, excellent problem-solving, and troubleshooting ability.
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the changing needs of the HVAMC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in design, engineering, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a university environment.
  • 2+ years of experience working with clients in a design-related field.
