Senior Staff Accountant, Inventory Cost
About the role
The Senior Staff Accountant, Inventory Cost applies maintains and improves processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuation. Travel is not required. This position has no personnel management responsibilities and reports to the Senior Cost Accounting Manager. The normal shift is 40 hours per week in the office, with periodic extended hours, as needed. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Own key month-end close activities including inventory journal entries, reconciliations and issue resolution
- Investigate reconciliation variances, maintaining a disciplined approach to resolving and/or correcting
- Update and review standard costs for products and services
- Absorb assistance with inventory cycle counts by investigating count variances and resolving issues
- Perform monthly review of inventory variance accounts
- Prepare supporting documentation for government reporting
- Review PO Activity for inventory purchases, matching to vendor invoices
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control processes, including SOX-related activities when applicable
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Five years of related accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate complex processes
- General awareness knowledge of the ISO9001 Quality Management System requirements, company Quality Policy and your contributions to the effectiveness of the QMS
- Responsible for being knowledgeable of and acting in strict accordance with the requirements of all relevant laws, regulations, and Company policies, including, among other areas, Food and Drug Administration regulations
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in accounting or finance from a four-year college or university
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Five years of related accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles and attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Demonstrated ability to streamline and automate complex processes
