Senior Staff Accountant, Contract Services
About the role
The Lifepoint Business Services (LBS) Finance team supports hospitals and entities across the organization. We provide strategic accounting and operational support, partnering closely with site leadership, technical accounting, and operations teams to ensure accuracy, transparency, and consistency in all financial processes.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior accounting partner supporting Hospital Contract Services through complex accounting, financial analysis, and contract administration activities.
- Lead and support month-end close responsibilities, including journal entries, reconciliations, post-close review, and financial analysis for Hospital Contract Services.
- Calculate and manage contract billing for Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) programs and other designated hospital partnerships outside of the Net Health billing platform.
- Maintain client and contract master data, including new client setup, contract creation, contract renewals, and annual rate updates.
- Prepare and distribute annual contract rate notifications and ensure contract pricing is accurately reflected within applicable billing systems.
- Maintain the Hospital Contract Services hierarchy and support ongoing contract maintenance activities.
- Prepare, review, and analyze complex balance sheet reconciliations, revenue schedules, and supporting financial workpapers.
- Perform detailed profit and loss analysis, balance sheet reviews, and variance analysis to ensure financial accuracy and identify unusual trends.
- Validate revenue recognition and ensure billing activity is accurately reflected within the general ledger.
- Support operations leadership by providing financial reporting, analytical support, and post-close review of operational results.
- Partner with Technical Accounting and operational leadership to resolve complex accounting questions and contract-related issues.
- Aid in annual budgeting activities and support financial planning initiatives for Hospital Contract Services.
- Develop and maintain large, complex Excel workbooks used to support contract management, billing, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting and billing processes through advanced Excel functionality, AI tools, and other technology solutions.
- Drive continuous process improvement initiatives focused on increasing efficiency, reducing manual effort, and improving financial accuracy.
- Utilize approved AI resources, including Microsoft Copilot, to improve recurring accounting, reporting, and analytical processes whenever appropriate.
- Serve as a trusted accounting resource for internal leadership while building strong relationships across Finance and Hospital Contract Services.
- Participate in special projects and additional accounting responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance required.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience required, preferably supporting healthcare, hospital finance, contract services, or other complex operational accounting environments.
- Experience performing month-end close, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and revenue accounting.
- Experience supporting contract billing, contract administration, or recurring customer billing processes strongly preferred.
- Experience maintaining contract pricing, renewals, or client master data preferred.
- Experience supporting multiple facilities, entities, or business units preferred.
- Experience working within Oracle, SAP, or another ERP system preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, nested formulas, large datasets, and financial modeling.
- Experience creating and maintaining complex Excel workbooks and financial schedules.
- Ability to analyze financial statements, investigate variances, and identify process improvements.
- Experience utilizing AI productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot or similar technologies to improve efficiency is highly desirable.
- Ability to learn new financial systems and identify opportunities for automation.

Pay
$66,476 - $89,742 per year.
