Senior Staff Accountant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to join a healthcare organization on a contract-to-permanent basis. This role is ideal for an accounting specialist who thrives in a hands-on environment and can manage core financial operations with accuracy and consistency. The position supports day-to-day accounting activities while helping ensure timely month-end and year-end reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across payables, receivables, and general ledger activity.
• Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate discrepancies to ensure balances are complete and reliable.
• Lead key close activities at month-end and year-end, helping deliver timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger by reviewing transactions and correcting variances as needed.
• Use Excel and accounting platforms such as Accumatica and Bill.com to process transactions, track data, and support reporting.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address accounting questions and keep financial processes running smoothly.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a senior-level accounting role with broad exposure to operational and general ledger accounting.
• Strong working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance.
• Hands-on experience supporting month-end close and year-end close processes.
• Ability to complete bank reconciliations accurately and resolve discrepancies independently.
• Proficiency in Excel for analysis, reporting, and account support.
• Experience using Accumatica, Bill.com, or similar accounting systems.
• Availability to work on-site five days per week in Arlington, Virginia.
