Job Summary

The finance and accounting team at Ice Miller is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support the firm’s accounting function. This role will work closely with the Controller and Director of Finance.

About the Role

Support the firm’s accounting function by leading and executing monthly and annual close processes, preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and providing insights to management. Ensure compliance with modified GAAP and company accounting policies. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities. Lead internal and external audits, prepare audit schedules, maintain and improve accounting processes and internal controls, coordinate with cross-functional teams on financial matters, assist with system implementations, process improvements, and special projects. Collaborate with the Financial Systems team to ensure accounting software operates as intended.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute monthly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review journal entries and general ledger activity
  • Perform and review account reconciliations, ensuring discrepancies are resolved, including the firm’s capital budget and fixed asset processes
  • Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Analyze variances and provide insights to management
  • Ensure compliance with modified GAAP and company accounting policies
  • Aid with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Lead internal and external audits, including preparation of audit schedules
  • Maintain and improve accounting processes and internal controls
  • Cook up with cross-functional teams on financial matters
  • Aid with system implementations, process improvements, and special projects
  • Collaborate with the Financial Systems team to ensure accounting software is operating as intended

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4–7+ years of accounting experience, with law firm experience strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with legal accounting platforms preferred
