About the Role

The Senior Specialist, Network Systems Engineer will be responsible for the development of advanced communication subsystem hardware/software for multi-segment (space, ground, airborne) applications. The position spans initial concept development through hardware/software implementation, test, and delivery. Potential applications include high rate, assured, and optical communications. The incumbent will understand all levels of development requirements, lead multi-disciplined engineering teams in developing new capabilities, and manage subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Systems engineering lead that organizes, participates, and manages key project/program engineering tasks
  • Leads requirements analysis, decomposition, and assignment to appropriate functional areas or subcontractors; manages traceability back to customer specifications and system-level derived requirements
  • Leads design synthesis and generation of supporting design documentation, including technical specifications, interface control documents, test plans and procedures, and verification cross-reference matrix (VCRM)
  • Ensures technical performance, quality, and adherence to established policies and processes
  • Develops and presents project/program design reviews for internal and external customer audiences
  • Leads or assists in project/program schedule and budget planning, subcontract control, and risk management
  • Leads or assists in management over systems engineering teams and other functional design engineers
  • Leads or assists system integration, verification, and qualification events
  • Participates in customer request for information (RFI), request for proposal (RFP), and new business development pursuits, including technical capability demonstrations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience, or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience, or in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
  • Must currently have, and/or be able to maintain, an active U.S. Government DOD Top Secret Clearance

Skills

  • Leadership skills with the ability to guide technical direction/vision for projects; strong contributor to integrated product teams
  • Understanding of communication theory, with working knowledge of digital design, RF design, mechanical design, network design, or software design of digital line-of-sight and satellite communication systems
  • Experience in requirements management and documentation; risk management, project planning, and technical project management
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and formal presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, DOORs, or similar tools
  • Experience managing technical projects involving system integration, verification, and formal qualification, including supporting events at customer locations
  • An active Secret or Top Secret US DoD clearance or the ability to obtain one

Schedule

9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days—totaling 80 hours worked—and have every other Friday off.
