About the role

A Product Quality Engineer is needed to develop, modify, apply and maintain quality evaluation, control systems and protocols for the building of highly complex electro-optical, electronic, and mechanical spaceflight and/or airborne assemblies. The role involves managing and maintaining program Quality Assurance activities, interfacing with Engineering, Management, Customers, and Subcontractors. The individual will monitor the build, installation, and test of software/hardware and integrated systems, participate in peer reviews, and lead activities related to non-conforming materials or assemblies. Strong influential and collaborative leadership skills, meticulous organization, initiative, and a proactive mindset are required.

Responsibilities

  • Validate processes and products utilizing established quality assurance policies, plans, and procedures.
  • Develop and implement audit plans to ensure compliance with internal policies, program requirements, and regulatory requirements.
  • Routinely track and analyze data to proactively identify process improvement opportunities and evaluate quality issues.
  • Lead teams to develop dispositions, formally evaluate root cause, and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Lead and execute First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with AS9102, including planning, review of design and manufacturing requirements, preparation and validation of FAI packages, coordination with cross-functional teams, and resolution of nonconformances.
  • Regularly interface with customer quality representatives for build and test activities and resolution of issues.
  • Provide drawing reviews and test procedure reviews to ensure design modifications meet all quality requirements.
  • Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action activities, Material Review Board and Failure Review Board meetings, and participate in Independent Review Board sessions.
  • Manage quality performance across the supply chain through supplier assessments, source selection, supplier quality management, and implementation of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools.
  • Establish and maintain quality codes driving procurement support.
  • Travel to suppliers to perform hardware inspections and provide guidance on process improvements.
  • Contribute to the design, production, and test of space systems hardware through design reviews, requirements validation, and mission/system risk analysis.
  • Meet financial and business objectives with accurate quality forecasting, executing programs within cost and schedule, resolving problems, and driving functional strategic improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to travel depending on program needs.
  • Ability to obtain security clearance (TS/SCI).

Skills

  • Active Security Clearance (preferred).
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification is highly valued.
  • Experience with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems, as well as APQP, is beneficial.
  • Background in developing and executing Manufacturing Engineering Instructions is desirable.
  • Test engineering experience, including environmental testing such as TVAC and vibration, is a plus.
  • Machining, GD&T, and engineering drawing review experience would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with composite structures, assembly, hardware integration, Circuit Card Assembly (CCA), and Surface Mount Technology (SMT) is preferred.
  • Understanding of military specifications, configuration control management, and failure analysis methods such as FA, CA, FMEA, and root cause/corrective action processes is beneficial.
  • Program execution and leadership experience.

Pay

The salary range for this role in New York state is $73,000 - $135,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
