Senior Specialist, Electrical Engineer (RF Design)

About the role
As a member of the Product Support Engineering team, you will investigate a variety of problems related to RF/Analog circuitry, assembly, SMT, and test. A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of radio transmitter and receiver design is required. You will collaborate across multifunctional teams to diagnose problems to the component level, determine solutions via simulation and experimentation, and implement corrective actions. You will lead and mentor junior engineers, serving as the go-to person for all things RF. Additionally, you will work closely with RF design teams to design out obsolete or long-lead components.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and guide junior staff, assisting them as they investigate problems and perform simulations.
- Lead investigations and coordinate tasks.
- Detail design tradeoffs and ensure product performance aligns with product specifications and industry standards.
- Mitigate component shortages by qualifying alternatives or redesigning circuits and sub-assemblies.
- Work with design engineering and manufacturing teams to introduce new designs into manufacturing.
- Collaborate with design engineering to make necessary circuit changes prior to and during the launch of new products.
- Troubleshoot units, modules, and assemblies to the component level, implementing changes to reduce failures.
- Improve product performance and implement cost improvements, outlining design tradeoffs and risks.
Essential Functions
- Hardware troubleshooting ability, including analog and RF components and circuits.
- Design and conduct engineering experiments and act upon test results.
- Design and analyze circuits and components using ADS, Matlab, and various design and simulation tools.
- Hold training sessions with junior staff regarding simulations, bench measurements, and reconciling differences between models and circuit designs.
- Use typical lab equipment: Oscilloscope, DMM, Spectrum & Network Analyzers, and signal generators.
- Analyze designs and communicate technical information to support staff.
- Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 7 years of prior relevant experience.
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience.
- In lieu of a degree, minimum of 11 years of prior related experience.
- High-level RF knowledge, and design and troubleshoot experience is required.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Electrical engineering degree.
- Experience with tactical Radio and Power Amplifier HW.
- Experience troubleshooting to component level.
- Working knowledge of LabVIEW, ADS, and Jira.
Pay
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $92,500 - $171,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as the final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
