Position Description Summary
APT Research is hiring a Senior Software Safety Engineer in Huntsville, AL to support MDA on our MAPSS Safety contract. APT is an employee-owned engineering services company specializing in conducting safety and quality analyses for the U.S. Government.
Requirements
- Experience implementing system safety/software safety processes and methodologies IAW Government and Industry Standards;
- A working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 (series);
- During design, development, use, and maintenance of safety-critical software systems and their integration with safety-critical hardware systems.
- Must have 5 years of Software Safety Engineering experience.
- Must have at least 4 years of experience of conducting or assisting in software and or firmware analyses.
- Familiarity with Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH), DO-178C and DO-331.
- Must be able to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
- Must be able to ability to create briefings in PowerPoint and brief to a technical audience.
- Ability to analyze, research, assess, and organize technical data into cohesive and clear technical reports and presentations.
- Ability to organize, schedule, and facilitate technical meetings and working groups.
- Must be able to develop technical solutions to complex problems.
- Extensive experience in systems safety, with a proven track record of successfully mitigating hazards in complex systems.
- Familiarity with DoD/aerospace safety requirements & policy to include AR385-17, IEEE C95.1, DOD4145.26.
- Understanding of design reviews process and design gates for large Department of Defense (DOD) procurement programs.
- Understanding of risk and hazard assessment, mitigations and acceptance.
- Demonstrated experience developing and presenting safety assessments to a diverse audience.
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from ABET accredited institution and 10 years' experience in system Safety engineering.
- Acceptable alternative: Bachelor's degree in scientific field (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science) with 15 years demonstrated skill and relevant experience in system safety engineering and/or software system safety engineering.
Security Clearance Requirement
- Must have a SECRET level clearance or higher
