Senior Software Engineering Manager, Ecosystems and Integrations Databases
About the role
Software Engineering Managers at Google have the technical expertise to lead major projects and also manage a team of engineers. They optimize their own code and ensure their team members do the same. The team's mission is to transform Cloud databases for agent-based AI. They work on various projects including information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, and user interface design.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the industry's leading platform for empowering agents to use enterprise data.
- Develop a team of software engineers, helping them to grow while navigating a fast-evolving, high stakes environment.
- Provide cross-organizational leadership, interfacing with product, research, UX, program management, and executive leadership, expecting regular engagement at Vice President (VP) level.
- Create a customer-centric culture that prioritizes developer experience and stays attuned to the innovations happening in the AI developer community, including enterprise, startup, and open-source developers.
- Balance the need for ongoing, open-ended research at the frontiers of AI and databases with the practical imperative to ship products and features that meet customer demands today.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience with software development.
- 5 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
- 5 years of experience with machine learning algorithms and tools, or applied ML (e.g., NLP, Generative AI).
- Experience building and deploying generative AI agents.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
- Experience with information security, governance and compliance for enterprise cloud services.
- Experience maintaining and contributing to open source software, especially on code hosting platforms.
- Understanding of agent skills, model context protocol, and other agent/tool frameworks and protocols.
Skills
Technical and leadership expertise, managing engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget, and overseeing the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
