Senior Software Engineer, XR Emulator

About the role

Google's software engineers develop next‑generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products handle information at massive scale and extend beyond web search. Engineers are expected to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and enthusiastically tackle new problems across the full stack. Google’s XR team is at the forefront of the convergence of AI and XR, building lightweight XR devices such as smart glasses and headsets that pair with AI to augment human intelligence, offering personalized, conversational, and contextually aware experiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop product software and hardware readiness, guiding the product through launch milestones.
• Optimize device‑specific support and polish, applying core technology to production.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in software development with C/C++.
• 3 years of experience working with embedded operating systems.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• Experience taking consumer electronics devices to production.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• 5 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience with version control systems like Git and code review tools like Gerrit.
• Experience developing accessible technologies.
• Knowledge of embedded development and microcontroller (MCU) real‑time operating system (RTOS) systems.

Pay

US: $174,000 – $252,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits.
