Job Summary
TWA is seeking experienced software (robotics) development engineers to join their team and work on the automation stack for their forklifts. The role involves driving successful outcomes by improving and enhancing automation software as TWA expands with successful customer deployments.
About the Role
The ideal candidate will be a strong generalist capable of working across motion planning, vehicle command, perception and prediction. They will help make the right design trade-offs as they identify new features and scope for the product.
Responsibilities
- Take the Lead on Critical Features: Own the design and implementation of core automation enhancements from initial concept to full-scale deployment.
- Solve Uncharted Problems: Leverage expertise in robotics, planning, SLAM, and statistical data fusion to tackle next-generation challenges in infrastructure-free navigation.
- Drive Product Maturity and Scalability: Enhance vehicle and fleet performance through quantifiable improvements and ensure robustness for rapid growth and deployment goals.
- Influence Strategic Direction: Contribute to strategic planning and future product development, providing technical leadership and mentoring.
- Lead in an AI-first environment: Utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate the SDLC, from rapid prototyping to automated test generation.
- Lead from the Front: Provide technical guidance, mentor junior engineers, and share original ideas to elevate the engineering organization.
Requirements
- 7+ years of hands-on, industry robotics experience with end-to-end software development on shipped products.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
- Excellent object-oriented programming skills in C++. Solid software design and development skills, including writing efficient, clean, and reusable code (C++ and Python).
- Track record of bringing important features from ideation to deployment. Fluency with AI-assisted development (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, LLMs).
- A foundation in computational geometry, sensor processing (LiDAR, Vision), and handling real-world noise and uncertainty.
- Experience with motion planning algorithms, vehicle dynamics, and control systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical ideas to engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with perception systems, motion planning, and their integration into planning pipelines.
- A strong understanding of product development processes for mission-critical systems.
- Past experience in providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers.
- Experience supporting shipping products and safety systems certification (e.g., ISO 3691, ISO 13849, CE Marking, etc.).
