Senior Software Engineer (Reston or Cambridge)
About the role
The Custom Government Engineering team at Akamai operates across the full breadth and depth of our technology stack to design, build, and deliver customized solutions for Public Sector customers. This role partners closely with Operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams in a highly collaborative environment to deploy, operate, and continuously improve secure, resilient, and high-performance Application Delivery Networks.
Responsibilities
- Act as a lead in design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of the NetStorage ecosystem.
- Lead integration of NetStorage into Public Sector enterprise environment.
- Research and implement new storage features.
- Act as a technical resource to assist in escalations.
- Work with other internal development teams to solve platform problems.
- Maintain, enhance, and develop tools and testing frameworks.
Requirements
- 5 years of related experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Experience with CouchDB, understanding of NoSQL database design, and ability to manage data synchronization.
- Experience in system administration and software development.
- Experience in one or more scripting languages (Shell, Perl, Python, etc.) and hands-on experience working in Linux/Unix.
- Familiarity with cloud storage concepts and data management replication concepts.
- Experience with git/Stash and Perforce version control systems.
Qualifications
- Currently maintain (or have maintained within past 24 months) eligibility for access to USG Secret information, based on a successfully adjudicated USG Tier 3 background investigation.

Pay
For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $121,400 - $218,600/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
