About The Role
Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, provides access to crucial employment and income information needed for mortgage loans, apartment rentals, background checks, and more. Truework is disrupting a $5B+ industry dominated by legacy incumbents with a superior product and intense customer focus. Within Checkr, Truework operates independently, enabling rapid iteration while leveraging assets from the core business—think of it as a startup within a startup.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Truework team, you will develop and maintain the platform used by 8 of the top 10 mortgage lenders in the U.S. Engineers at Checkr take ownership of all aspects of product development, from leading projects and collaborating with product managers and customers to define features, to working with sales and marketing teams on launches and scaling. You’ll have significant autonomy and thrive with high agency and a strong sense of craftsmanship for yourself and your team. While most work is backend-oriented, we welcome candidates from diverse roles (full stack, backend, QA, SRE, etc.) if you meet our requirements.
Responsibilities
- Be an independent individual contributor who solves problems and delivers high-quality solutions with minimal oversight and a high level of ownership.
- Bring a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset—collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve ambiguities and ship impactful features.
- Partner with engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders to design and architect new features.
- Adopt an experimentation mindset—autonomy and empowerment to validate customer needs, gain team buy-in, and ship rapid MVPs.
- Maintain a quality mindset—insist on quality as a critical pillar of your software deliverables.
- Apply an analytical mindset—instrument and deploy new product experiments with a data-driven approach.
- Deliver performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code capable of supporting Truework’s significant scale.
- Monitor, investigate, triage, and resolve production issues for services owned by the team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education/training).
- Proficiency in Python and JavaScript (or similar languages/frameworks).
- Experience developing RESTful APIs.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- A strong sense of ownership from feature design through production release.
- A desire to collaborate with external stakeholders.
- An eagerness to learn, collaborate, improve, innovate, and have fun.

Pay
We use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop ranges for our roles, so each location may have a different range. For this role, if remote, the top to bottom of the possible range is listed below. The target range for an exact location will be specified during recruiting discussions.
On-target Earnings OR Base Salary range (San Francisco, CA): $185,000—$218,000 USD.

At Checkr, we believe an in-office work environment strengthens collaboration, drives innovation, and encourages connection. Our hub locations are Denver, CO; San Francisco, CA; Nashville, TN; and Santiago, Chile. Individuals are expected to work from the office 3+ days a week.
