About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build a platform for network tooling that supports edge, backbone, and data center operations and deployment tasks at Crusoe Cloud, a leading cloud provider. This role is central to how Crusoe Cloud manages and operates its network infrastructure across diverse environments, providing the tooling that operations and engineering teams rely on to deploy, monitor, and maintain the network reliably at scale. As Crusoe Cloud scales, the reliability and usability of this tooling directly impacts the speed and efficiency of network operations across the company.

Responsibilities

  • Network State Management: Design and develop systems for network provisioning, configuration management, topology/routing state, and control plane APIs.
  • Scaling the Control Plane: Contribute to engineering efforts to scale control plane systems reliably, handling increasing network complexity.
  • Mentorship and Code Quality: Mentor engineers, uphold design and implementation standards, and provide guidance on technical assessments and code reviews.
  • Build vs. Buy Decisions: Assess and recommend developing control plane software in-house or leveraging third-party/open-source solutions.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with product, operations, and engineering teams to align control plane systems with Crusoe Cloud’s growth and networking needs.
  • Reliability Engineering: Design fault-tolerant, distributed control plane systems for high availability and resilience.
  • Engineering Best Practices: Advocate for modern software development, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Take ownership of initiatives from ideation through deployment, delivering impactful control plane infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems in production.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Python).
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts (consensus, state reconciliation, fault tolerance, high availability).
  • Track record of designing scalable, reliable APIs or services used by multiple teams.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and IaC tooling (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Strong communication skills and experience collaborating cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and contribute to technical direction.

Qualifications

  • Experience with networking software, protocols, or control plane systems (e.g., BGP, SDN) is a plus.
  • Experience at a cloud provider, hyperscaler, or large-scale data center operator is a plus.
  • Familiarity with network telemetry/management protocols (gNMI, gRPC, NETCONF) is a plus.
  • Experience with Kubernetes-based orchestration or building custom controllers/operators is a plus.
  • Contributions to open-source infrastructure or networking projects are a plus.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and equity packages (Restricted Stock Units)
  • Paid time off, holidays, and leave of absence programs
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer contributions to HSA account
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
  • Professional development and tuition reimbursement
  • Mental health and wellness support
  • Commuter benefits (parking and transit)
  • Cell phone stipend
  • 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4%
  • Volunteer time off
  • Global travel insurance and emergency assistance
  • Daily meals allowance
  • Additional location-specific perks and programs
