About the role

We are seeking a Software Engineer, Mobile (iOS & Android) to join our dynamic team at Abby Care. Reporting to the VP, Head of Engineering, this position is based in San Francisco, CA (4 days in-person).

Responsibilities

  • Lead mobile app development end-to-end, from concept to delivery.
  • Implement core features, improve performance and stability, and manage release cycles for both iOS and Android.
  • Build a caregiver-first experience that is intuitive and resilient, optimized for non-technical users.
  • Define and implement mobile testing frameworks grounded in real-world usage, ensuring reliability in low-connectivity environments.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to solve real-world problems in caregiving workflows.
  • Raise the bar on mobile engineering excellence, setting standards for code quality, architecture, observability, and security.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of professional software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building and shipping mobile apps.
  • Experience developing for iOS and/or Android in production (native or cross-platform with tools like React-Native), including release management and debugging issues in the wild.
  • Strong understanding of mobile fundamentals: performance, reliability, lifecycle, background execution, local storage, and networking.
  • Experience designing for real-world constraints such as intermittent connectivity, device variability, and accessibility needs.
  • Experience defining and implementing testing strategy for mobile: automated tests, CI, regression frameworks, and quality gates.
  • Experience integrating mobile apps with backend APIs and modern authentication patterns.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred.
  • Experience with product development is preferred.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry and at startups is preferred.
  • Nice to have: Experience with React Native or React, experience with offline-first or sync-heavy applications, familiarity with crash/performance monitoring and observability tools, experience with mobile CI/CD, and feature flagging/rollout strategies.
