About the Role

As a Software Engineer, you’ll lead efforts to scale our metrics and storage systems to meet the needs of our most advanced customers. Day to day, you’ll set technical direction, balancing near-term deliverables with long-term architectural improvements. You’ll partner with product, revenue, and engineering teams across W&B to evolve our platform and ensure it continues to meet customer demands. You’ll also help mentor engineers and drive best practices across the organization.

Responsibilities

The Metrics Platform team builds and scales the infrastructure behind Weights & Biases’ flagship Models product, which powers experiment tracking and analytics for over 2,500 of the world’s leading AI and ML teams. The team focuses on data ingestion, storage, and querying at a petabyte scale, optimizing for performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on backend performance and/or distributed systems
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, TypeScript, etc.)
  • Experience designing and scaling customer-facing APIs in production, ideally leveraging systems such as MySQL, Clickhouse, Bigtable, Pub/Sub, or Kafka
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and at least one major cloud provider (GCP, AWS, or Azure)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with other business functions
  • Background in large-scale metrics, logging, or analytics systems
  • Familiarity with designing cost-optimized storage and query infrastructure

Pay

The base salary range for this role is $139,000 to $204,000. The starting salary will be determined based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location. We strive for both market alignment and internal equity when determining compensation. In addition to base salary, our total rewards package includes a discretionary bonus, equity awards, and a comprehensive benefits program (all based on eligibility).
