About the role
Tabs is seeking a senior software engineer to join our Merchant Onboarding team. This team owns the full merchant journey, from onboarding & configuration to the internal tooling that powers our teams. The ideal candidate will work across real production systems, complex data flows, and product surfaces used by teams who need software they can trust.
Responsibilities
- Build core backend services and APIs to support the merchant onboarding process
- Develop and maintain product surfaces that finance teams rely on daily
- Create interfaces and tools that simplify complex concepts for both internal and external users
- Design and implement internal systems that improve reliability, observability, and performance
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design teams to deliver high-quality solutions
Requirements
- 5-8 years of professional software engineering experience
- Experience building web applications or backend services in production
- Familiarity with modern backend languages and frameworks (TypeScript, Node, NestJS)
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or similar
- Experience working with APIs and relational databases
Qualifications
- Enjoy owning systems end-to-end, from first design doc to fixing production edge cases weeks later
- Care deeply about correctness and long-term maintainability
- Curious about domains you don't already understand, and willing to sit with discomfort while learning
- Can disagree respectfully, explain your reasoning, and change your mind when the data says you should
Skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Knowledge of microservices architecture
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines
