Senior Software Engineer – Mainframe / COBOL / VSAM

Position Type: Contract | Duration: 12+ Months (Strong possibility of extension and potential conversion) | Location: Minneapolis, MN

About the role

As a Mainframe Cobol Programmer, you will support and maintain the Data Distributor, NOVA, and SD applications within the Core Deposits team, modify existing COBOL programs to meet product and business requirements, validate and distribute data to Hogan IDS, develop and maintain JCL for batch jobs, perform testing and production deployments, participate in Agile ceremonies, support production issues, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Support and maintain the Data Distributor, NOVA, and SD applications within the Core Deposits team.
• Modify existing COBOL programs to meet product and business requirements, including enhancements, fixes, and regulatory updates.
• Validate and distribute data to Hogan IDS, including nightly batch processing.
• Develop and maintain JCL for batch jobs and production workflows.
• Perform testing, validation, and production deployments following change processes.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with product and business partners.
• Support production issues and contribute to overall application stability.
• Mentor and help train junior engineers on Hogan and mainframe best practices.

Requirements

• Strong COBOL development experience in a mainframe environment – most critical skill.
• Strong understanding of and extensive hands-on experience with VSAM.
• Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy, highly customized mainframe applications.
• Solid understanding of JCL for batch processing.
• Experience with Endevor and other core mainframe technologies.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.
• Solid coding foundation with the ability to learn and adapt within complex legacy systems.
• Must be eligible for W-2 employment; 1099 contractors and Corp-to-Corp arrangements will not be considered.

Pay

Pay Range: $52 - $57 per hour (based on education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.)
