Senior Software Engineer, Java | Vulnerability

About the role

NinjaOne's Vulnerability Management team is building the real-time, AI-driven engine that helps IT teams find and fix security exposures in minutes instead of days, without slowing down the endpoints it protects. As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you'll design and scale the backend services that power continuous vulnerability detection, CVE correlation, and remediation workflows across millions of endpoints. You'll work at the intersection of security data, high-throughput distributed systems, and AI-assisted risk prioritization, partnering closely with product and detection teams to reduce customers' mean time to remediate. This is a high-impact, high-visibility role on one of NinjaOne's newest and fastest-growing product lines.

We create and deliver mission-critical services to enable NinjaOne’s customers to administer, protect and maintain millions of endpoints and servers. You will have the opportunity to design and develop high-availability mission-critical software systems that support our worldwide operations.

Responsibilities

• Java and Kotlin software development – use your expertise to contribute to the development of large-scale software applications.
• Make quality an invariant part of your work and help your fellow engineers continue to meet our quality-first standards.
• Committing code and shipping products – you will be one of our most trusted engineers committing code.
• Responsible for implementing design patterns and working on enterprise-level software challenges in a startup environment.
• Impact product more hands-on than at other companies, building software of scale that runs on millions of endpoints.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years experience in Java software development for product applications or equivalent.
• Solid expertise in Kotlin will make you a stand-out candidate.
• 4+ years experience working with highly scalable software systems.
• Experience working on systems at scale and finding solutions to scale systems.
• Working knowledge of a breadth of OOP design principles.
• Expertise in scaling data structures and object-oriented design.
• Knowledge of API best practices and REST service development using frameworks like Jersey or Spring.
• Relational database design and development experience.
• Experience creating both client and server-side development for responsive messaging.
• Caching systems expertise and experience with Redis will make you a stand-out.
• Expert knowledge of quality testing practices.

Location

We are flexible on remote working from home if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states: CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, MA, ME, NC, NJ, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL if you prefer a hybrid option.

Pay

Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including location, market demands, experience, job-related knowledge, and skills. For roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey, or Washington, the base salary hiring range is $140,000 to $200,000 per year. For roles based in New York, the base salary hiring range is $140,000 to $200,000 per year.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Due to operational policies, NinjaOne is unable to hire for this role within the city limits of Chicago. We will consider all qualified candidates who reside outside of the city proper or are willing to self-relocate.
