Senior Software Engineer – Java, AWS & Microservices

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and support scalable applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architectures.
• Lead modernization initiatives, including migration of business logic from database-centric systems and stored procedures into cloud-native Java services.
• Design and implement event-driven solutions using Kafka and enterprise messaging technologies.
• Develop and support REST and SOAP APIs with a focus on scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Build and deploy cloud-native solutions leveraging AWS services such as EC2, S3, SQS, and IAM.
• Optimize application performance, resiliency, observability, and security across distributed systems.
• Champion automation-first engineering practices, Test-Driven Development (TDD), and continuous quality improvements.
• Integrate automated testing, code quality checks, and deployment controls into CI/CD pipelines.
• Optimize database interactions and data processing across PostgreSQL and Snowflake environments.
• Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions that improve system stability and performance.
• Partner closely with Product, Architecture, DevOps, and Engineering teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering excellence, software craftsmanship, and best practices across the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent practical experience
• 6–8+ years of hands-on software engineering experience developing enterprise applications
• Strong hands-on experience with Java (Core Java & Java EE)
• Deep expertise in Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Cloud, JMS, and Tomcat
• Experience designing and developing microservices and distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services, including EC2, S3, SQS, and IAM
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or enterprise messaging technologies such as MQ, Solace, or RabbitMQ
• Experience building and supporting RESTful and SOAP-based services
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and asynchronous processing patterns
• Proficiency with Git, Maven, Jenkins, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito
• Familiarity with code quality and security tools including SonarQube, Fortify, and Veracode
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases
• Experience working in Agile environments with strong collaboration and communication skills
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and contribute to technical leadership initiatives

Qualifications

• Experience with Snowflake, data warehousing, and advanced SQL development
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Hibernate, and JPA
• Exposure to front-end technologies such as Angular, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS
• Experience modernizing legacy applications and integrating cloud-native microservices with enterprise platforms
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Background in financial services, capital markets, or other highly regulated industries
• AWS or Java certifications

Schedule

• Flexible/hybrid model of 3 days onsite and 2 days remote (onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a third day unique to each team or employee).

Pay

• The salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations. Actual salary is determined based on the role, location, individual experience, skills, and other considerations.
