About the role

Element451 is building an AI-powered platform that revolutionizes college and university recruitment, enrollment, and student support. As a Senior Engineer, you will own the integrations that make this platform functional, ensuring reliable data movement and AI-driven processes.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own data pipelines and integration services designed for idempotency, safe retries, and observability.
  • Treat data integrity as sacred, verifying integrations through real customer records and catching discrepancies before they affect clients.
  • Drive root causes to resolution for incidents, sync failures, and data discrepancies, and escalate broader issues to the relevant Principal Engineer.
  • Generalize fixes into shared libraries, surface production risks early, and ensure every output is reviewed, tested, and owned before release.
  • Treat AI tools as core craft, holding AI-assisted work to the same standards as manual code, and share openly with the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering, including senior-level work on data integrations or backend services in a complex, multi-tenant SaaS product.
  • Strong, current Python skills for production data pipelines and integration services.
  • Solid MongoDB knowledge, including data modeling and query performance across flexible, document-oriented schemas at multi-tenant scale.
  • Experience with distributed systems, async, queue-driven architectures, and handling partial failure, retries, idempotency, eventual consistency, and backpressure.
  • Third-party API integrations (Student Information Systems, Stripe, PayPal, Google, Outlook) and AWS-hosted environments (secrets management, SQS, workflow orchestration).
  • Automated testing across layers, and fluency with agentic AI development tooling (OpenAI APIs or comparable platforms).
  • Deep, current fluency with agentic AI development tooling and excellent written communication.
