Engineering$140k–$210k/yrFull-time

About Your Role

Fiserv is a global leader in financial technology, and our Clover platform empowers millions of merchants worldwide to accept payments and manage their business operations. The Integrated Payment Experience (IPX) team builds and maintains the core software ecosystem powering these transactions—owning a portfolio of 20+ native Android applications, public SDKs, and integration microservices deployed across Clover POS terminals. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work in a hybrid full-stack capacity (predominantly focused (~80%) on native Android development with ~20% backend Java/microservices contribution) to bridge POS hardware, merchant applications, and 3rd-party integrators by building resilient client architectures, defining robust client-to-server API contracts, and enforcing strict payment security standards across our global device fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, modularize, and maintain a portfolio of 20+ native Android applications using Kotlin, Jetpack, Coroutines, and Clean Architecture (~80% focus).
  • Build, document, and support public-facing Clover SDKs and APIs that empower 3rd-party developers to build seamless payment applications on our platform.
  • Design, build, and support lightweight Java backend microservices, gateways, or integration middleware (~20% focus) that connect mobile endpoints to server-side payment infrastructure.
  • Develop custom native applications running directly on Clover Android hardware while building resilient semi-integrated (SEMI) solutions to connect external software endpoints.
  • Partner closely with server and backend engineering teams to define, optimize, and consume robust RESTful API contracts for end-to-end transaction flows.
  • Enforce strict payment security protocols (including Android KeyStore management and server-side tokenization) across all applications, SDKs, and 3rd-party integration touchpoints.
  • Own end-to-end quality, fleet stability, and release operations for multi-app deployments across a massive network of Clover devices.

Responsibilities listed are not intended to be all-inclusive and may be modified as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on native Android development using Kotlin, alongside hands-on backend development in Java.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a hybrid stack—combining client-side Android mobile development (~80%) with backend microservices engineering (~20%).
  • Demonstrated experience developing, maintaining, or modularizing multi-app Android codebases, client-facing SDKs, or developer libraries.
  • Hands-on experience building and integrating RESTful APIs and Java backend microservices, with a clear understanding of client-server architecture principles.
  • Deep understanding of payment lifecycles (auth, capture, void, refund, tip adjustments, terminal setup) and security standards (PCI-DSS, EMV, tokenization).
  • Proven experience building or maintaining integration touchpoints for 3rd-party developers and external partners.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience developing native apps or SEMI integrations for Clover POS hardware using Clover SDKs, Clover Connector, or REST Pay API (or experience with Verifone, Ingenico, Square, PAX).
  • Proficiency with Java / Spring Boot for building backend integration microservices or middleware to support mobile APIs.
  • Proficiency in Android debugging tools (ADB, Android Studio, memory profiling) and secure Android OS patterns (KeyStore, hardware-backed encryption).
  • Experience designing intuitive API contracts, SDK developer documentation, or integration guides for external developers.
  • Experience managing CI/CD automation pipelines for application fleets (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
  • Hands-on experience with hardware/peripheral integrations over USB, Serial, or Bluetooth protocols on Android.
