Shape the core experience for 10M+ daily readers. Join the team behind Scribd’s primary reading experience and directly impact how millions of users explore and learn from our 300,000+ document corpus.

  • Experiment at the intersection of product and AI. Partner closely with Product, Design, and AI/ML teams to rapidly prototype and launch experiments that elevate engagement and comprehension on the document reading page.
  • Build new creative experiences from 0→1. Help develop innovative tools that empower users to synthesize research and produce study guides, presentations, and documents — all enhanced by generative AI.
  • Improve SEO and AEO. Work with our SEO PM to improve search and answer engine traffic to the Core Scribd pages.
  • Modernize our tech stack for the future. Lead efforts to decompose our Ruby-on-Rails monolith into a modern, modular Microfrontend architecture powered by Next.js and a distributed backend.

Responsibilities

  • Help migrate frontend surfaces from a Ruby-on-Rails monolith to a microfrontend.
  • Collaborate with our Data/ML and Content Pipeline teams to build new features and make improvements to our document ingestion infrastructure.
  • Create new GraphQL APIs.
  • Build new services in Node, Python, Go.
  • Collaborate with Design and PM.
  • Contribute to a shared design system.
  • Make contributions to improving our frontend infrastructure.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of full-stack development experience. Our frontend monolith is built with Ruby-on-Rails and React; we will be migrating pieces of it to Next.js in the latter half of this year.
  • You’ve built and shipped production systems across the stack using React and Next.js or Ruby on Rails.
  • Familiarity with maintaining services in a cloud environment. We own the document search service, among others on Core Scribd. We’re looking for you to be familiar with monitoring/maintaining service health, and responding to incidents.
  • Understanding of performance, accessibility, and SEO. You’re passionate about building fast, inclusive, and discoverable experiences.
  • Collaborative mindset. You thrive in cross-functional environments and enjoy working closely with Design, Product, AI/ML, and Infrastructure to deliver high-quality, user-centered features.
  • Commitment to code quality and maintainability. You take pride in writing clean, well-documented, and extensible code, setting a high bar for engineering quality across the organization.

Ideally, you have experience working with Node and Go services.

Pay

At Scribd, Inc., your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location.

  • In the state of California: $151,000 to $226,000
  • In the United States, outside of California: $124,000 to $214,500
  • In Canada: $157,500 CAD to $201,000 CAD

This position is also eligible for a competitive equity ownership and a comprehensive benefits package.
