About the role

U.S. Bank is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute toward the success of our technology initiatives in our digital transformation journey. This position will be responsible for the analysis, design, testing, development and maintenance of best in class software experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for designing, developing, testing, operating and maintaining products
  • Takes full stack ownership by consistently writing production-ready and testable code
  • Performs analysis on failures, propose design changes, and encourage operational improvements
  • Makes sound design/coding decisions keeping customer experience in the forefront
  • Counsels and provides guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures
  • Ensures all aspects of product development follow compliance and security best practices
  • Embraces emerging technology opportunities and contributes to the best practices in support of the bank’s technology transformation
  • Contributes to a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Hands-on expertise in Java (11/17+) and Springboot in production environments
  • Develop modern web frontends using React, Typescript, Lit and TanStack, optimized for performance and offline use cases
  • Implement Progressive Web Apps (PWA) with Service Workers and Workbox for offline-first behavior and background synchronization
  • Design and consume REST and GraphQL APIs, exposing business use cases rather than data stores
  • Deep understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Domain modeling and invariants, Hexagonal / Ports-and-Adapters architecture, Functional programming concepts
  • Proven experience designing and operating RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations
  • Deep knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL/Aurora), schema design, and query optimization
  • Experience with cloud-native development on AWS including containerized deployments
  • Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing strategies, and code quality tooling
  • Strong understanding of security best practices, including OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, RBAC/ABAC, and secure coding
  • Experience with observability stacks (logging, metrics, tracing) and production troubleshooting
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead cross-team technical decisions
  • Integrate AI capabilities into backend Java/Spring Boot services and expose them as clean internal APIs consumed by frontend, bots, and partner systems
  • Drive AI engineering standards: prompt versioning, model versioning, experiment tracking, rollback policies, and production readiness checklists

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Five to six years of relevant experience
