About the role
The Senior Software Engineer, Data Services will own the backend systems that transform every workout into trusted member activity, real-time insights, and the foundation for an AI coach that adapts dynamically on the connected fitness equipment.
Responsibilities
- Owning the systems behind member activity end-to-end — from telemetry ingestion to the APIs powering the experience across mobile apps and connected equipment.
- Shipping the backend for an AI coach — the data plumbing behind adaptive workout plans, ensuring right data, low latency, and dependable delivery.
- Turning raw telemetry into insight — pipelines that produce AI-generated summaries, trends, and progress members can feel.
- Delivering data in real time, at scale — low-latency streaming systems where reliability isn’t optional and milliseconds matter.
- Modernizing core pipelines & integrations — re-architecting to move the platform to the next order of magnitude on cost, reliability, and maintainability.
- Building AI into how the team works — finding high-leverage places to use AI/LLMs to accelerate engineering.
Requirements
- Proven production ownership of backend services and data-intensive, event-driven systems (streaming, ingestion, time-series/aggregation, or high-throughput integrations).
- Strong backend fundamentals with Node.js and TypeScript, including solid API design and service architecture.
- Hands-on AI development experience — building real features with modern AI tooling.
- AWS + infrastructure-as-code experience (Lambda/Serverless, ECS Fargate, MSK/Kafka or Kinesis, RDS/Postgres, MongoDB, S3, Terraform).
- A reliability mindset — SLOs, observability, alerting, and driving down recurring incidents.
- Bonus points for experience with high-scale streaming/messaging (Kafka/MSK, Kinesis) and time-series or aggregation workloads.
- Experience re-architecting legacy pipelines for cost and reliability.
