About the Opportunity

The Senior Software Engineer role is a senior individual contributor position responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-quality software solutions that support higher education digital products. This role provides technical leadership, influences engineering direction, and drives modernization initiatives. It contributes to improving software quality, operational excellence, and collaboration across multiple teams, playing a key role in advancing the organization's technology capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support enterprise-scale software applications and services.
• Lead complex technical initiatives involving multiple systems and engineering teams.
• Ensure software meets standards for quality, security, performance, maintainability, and reliability.
• Participate in architecture and design discussions, offering technical recommendations.
• Promote modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, DevOps, and cloud-native architectures.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools to enhance engineering productivity.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Quality Engineering, and Operations teams.
• Provide technical leadership through code and design reviews, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues, conducting root-cause analysis.
• Identify and communicate risks, dependencies, and technical challenges proactively.
• Provide realistic delivery estimates and meet commitments consistently.
• Contribute to platform modernization, cloud migration, scalability, security, and reliability efforts.
• Maintain and update domain expertise, staying current with industry trends and technologies.
• Support operational excellence, including incident management and production support as needed.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance without direct managerial responsibilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in software engineering for enterprise-scale applications.
• Proven experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting cloud-native applications.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies.
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and promote engineering excellence without managerial authority.
• Experience supporting mission-critical production and customer-facing systems.
• Strong mentorship skills and promotion of engineering best practices.
• Expertise in Object-Oriented Programming, software design principles, and architectural patterns.
• Proficiency in one or more languages such as Java, Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python.
• Experience with microservices, RESTful APIs, distributed systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Familiarity with source control systems like Git.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Ability to learn emerging technologies and share knowledge.
• Understanding of security, performance optimization, reliability, and observability best practices.
