Senior Software Engineer
About the role
Corkly is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build a more approachable way to learn about wine. This is a hands-on, full-stack role with meaningful ownership across product development, architecture, reliability, and AI-assisted experiences. You will work directly with the founder to turn user needs into clear, useful product features. The role suits someone who enjoys shipping complete experiences, making pragmatic technical decisions, and improving an early product without adding unnecessary complexity.
Responsibilities
- Own features from initial product discussion through implementation, testing, deployment, and measurement.
- Improve Corkly’s guided tasting, wine-learning, account, and subscription experiences.
- Build reliable AI-assisted features and help evaluate their quality, usefulness, and cost.
- Develop accessible, responsive interfaces using React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
- Design and maintain backend functionality using Supabase and PostgreSQL.
- Improve application security, authentication, authorization, and data handling.
- Maintain payment and subscription flows powered by Stripe.
- Improve performance, observability, testing, and deployment reliability.
- Review technical decisions and help establish practical engineering standards.
- Use product analytics and user feedback to guide improvements.
Our current stack
- TypeScript
- React 19 and Next.js 15
- Supabase and PostgreSQL
- Cloudflare Pages and Workers
- OpenAI and AI SDK integrations
- Stripe
- Tailwind CSS and Radix UI
- Mixpanel
- GitHub Actions
Experience with every part of the stack is not required. Strong product engineering judgment and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems matter more than matching every technology.
Requirements
- Strong experience building and maintaining production web applications.
- Excellent TypeScript, React, and modern web development skills.
- Experience working across frontend, backend, APIs, and relational databases.
- A practical understanding of application security, authentication, and privacy.
- The ability to diagnose difficult problems and communicate tradeoffs clearly.
- Good judgment about when to improve an existing system and when to replace it.
- Comfort working independently in an early-stage environment with evolving priorities.
- A habit of testing important behavior and verifying work before release.
- An interest in product quality, not only technical implementation.
Helpful experience
- Supabase, PostgreSQL, or row-level security.
- Cloudflare Workers, Pages, or OpenNext.
- Production AI or LLM integrations, including evaluation and cost management.
- Stripe subscriptions and billing.
- Consumer products, onboarding, retention, or product analytics.
- Wine, hospitality, education, or other learning-focused products.
Wine expertise is not required. Curiosity and respect for beginners are more important.
What success looks like
During your first few months, you will develop a clear understanding of Corkly’s product and architecture, ship meaningful improvements for users, strengthen the application’s reliability, and help define how the engineering function should grow. Corkly is small and founder-led, so this role offers substantial influence over both the product and the technical direction. We value direct communication, careful execution, practical experimentation, and software that genuinely helps the person using it.
