Senior Software Engineer
About the role
You will develop and execute key technology components of the Group Benefits Absence Platform. Absence Comprehensive Experience (ACE) is one of the largest programs within Guardian today and a cornerstone of the Group Benefits growth strategy. This multi-year initiative will re-platform and transform Guardian’s Disability and Absence Management suite, shaping the future of how we serve insurance customers. You will collaborate directly with solution architects, testing partners, cross-functional stakeholders, and development teams to define, design, and deliver technical solutions that align with the business’s vision and goals. The role supports the ACE Program by implementing absence functionality across multiple workstreams.
Responsibilities
- Develop complex solutions in an Agile environment as part of a global engineering team.
- Perform hands-on API and microservices development.
- Lead technical design discussions across multiple disciplines to propose viable solutions for complex problems.
- Build strong relationships across the business to influence and achieve strategic objectives.
- Assist onshore and offshore teams with technical expertise, complex systems, and programming challenges.
- Mentor and develop less experienced team members.
- Liaise between software engineering teams and production support to ensure operational readiness and resolve escalated issues.
- Coordinate non-production deployments with engineering and testing partners.
- Partner with the Release Management team for production deployments.
- Collaborate with the SaaS platform provider to deliver program capabilities.
- Coordinate enterprise changes across software engineering teams.
- Oversee technical aspects of the SDLC governance process for the program.
- Analyze application logs (Splunk, CloudWatch, ArgoCD, AppD) to identify root causes of reported issues.
- Create monitoring and alerts for the program or work with engineering teams to implement them.
- Build and maintain deployment cadence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience with service-oriented and cloud-native software architecture.
- Proficiency in Java Spring Boot, Aurora PostgreSQL, Redis, Hibernate, and Microsoft Graph API.
- Experience with modern API/microservice development, including build tools, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of secure programming practices, software delivery, and cloud security principles.
- Experience with AI-assisted product development using GitHub Copilot or Claude.
- Experience with AWS cloud technologies, including Docker, EKS, SNS/SQS, and SDKs.
- Experience with source control and development workflows (Bitbucket, Git).
- Experience with logging and monitoring tools (AppDynamics, ArgoCD, CloudWatch, Splunk, Zenoss).
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) to achieve 90-100% code coverage.
- Familiarity with API architectures and microservice strategy.
- Proven ability to lead projects spanning multiple teams and deliver on time in a fast-paced Agile environment.
- Track record of developing and supporting large-scale, business-critical systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solid understanding of coding aesthetics and code review practices.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong presentation, collaboration, and documentation skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience with Python, ReactJS, Apache Camel, or knowledge of FINEOS Group Insurance products.
Pay
Salary range: $95,170.00 – $156,355.00. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, and abilities. This role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
