About the role
Our Account Vertical is responsible for Registration, Authentication, User Identity, and Verification journeys. If you've registered, logged in, and managed your account on our platform, our engineering teams own this and more. You will be working specifically in our Access pillar, building a world-class login experience while maturing how we ensure accounts across our platform (Sportsbook, Casino, Racing, DFS) are safe and secure by detecting and preventing unauthorized activities.
Some of the technologies we use are Java, TypeScript (React), Python, and Terraform on AWS (K8s, EKS, Lambdas, RDS Aurora, SNS, SQS). We’re looking for passionate technologists, strong communicators, and those with a commitment to continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have the confidence to propose pragmatic solutions to complex problems and be eager to learn from and educate others.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work in empowered, multidisciplinary teams, autonomously tackling complex challenges that provide the very best experiences and products for a growing community of millions of players. You will create or improve small tools or applications, write secure, stable, testable, and maintainable code, and participate in team design, scoping, and prioritization discussions.
Responsibilities
- Solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
- Work with your team to invent, design, and build stable and performant software.
- Write code that is pragmatic, clear, and minimizes incidental complexity.
- Create flexible software without over-engineering, making appropriate trade-offs and reusing where possible.
- Own parts of product and technology, striving to become a subject matter expert.
- Write simple and extendable code following standards and best practices, and test it thoroughly.
- Balance customer requirements with team requirements.
- Lead projects and mentor junior engineers.
- Actively participate in code reviews, design discussions, team planning, and support ticket reviews.
- Resolve the root cause of complex problems, improving software maintainability.
- Estimate tasks accurately and deliver them on time.
- Stay up to date with industry tools, utilities, and open-source frameworks.
- Maintain a humble, pragmatic, and self-managed approach while challenging the norm.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field, or 4+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong experience writing distributed, highly scalable, and available backend systems & APIs using Java, Python, or similar programming languages.
- Experience with AI tools such as Cursor, Claude AI, or Microsoft Copilot.
- Experience with full stacks, single-page applications, and/or micro frontends.
- Experience working with cloud-based infrastructure and technologies, preferably AWS.
- Understanding of DevOps concepts such as containers (e.g., Docker), orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CloudFormation and/or Terraform).
- Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog).
- A fundamental understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence and software best practices.
- Expertise with testing concepts, tools, and integrating testing into the SDLC.
Nice to Have
- Experience with native mobile development on iOS and/or Android (e.g., Swift, Kotlin, React Native).
- Experience with experimentation/product analytics tools (e.g., Amplitude).

Pay
The applicable salary range for this position is $138,000 - $181,650 USD, dependent on relevant experience, location, business needs, and market demand.
