Senior Software Engineer

This job is an integral member of an agile software engineering team responsible for building scalable software applications across all digital channels to serve customers. The incumbent will take an enterprise-wide, architectural view of solutions and execute technically using the stack that best meets platform needs. The team is involved in every aspect of the software build process, from idea generation and business analysis to technical design and development using the latest technologies and design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs.
• Write code that adheres to coding standards and perform code reviews.
• Explore and implement appropriate technical solutions to achieve product features, monitoring technical progress against the project plan while ensuring functionality, scalability, and performance.
• Participate in all Scrum ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and complete sprints from development through final execution of software applications.
• Communicate issues or blockers to the Scrum Master in a timely manner.
• Drive story creation (Definition of Done, Acceptance Criteria, estimation), create tasks in tools like Jira, and update status and assignments.
• Monitor work against the production schedule, provide progress updates, and report technical difficulties to lead developers.
• Mentor associate and intermediate software engineers as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field (Master’s preferred).
• 5 years of proficiency in designing and analyzing algorithms, data structures, and design patterns for building and deploying scalable, highly available systems.
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Web Services/REST API, Angular, Oracle and DB2 databases, SQL, Kafka, Red Hat/DMN rules engine, GIT, and GCP (preferred).
• 7 years of experience working with technology systems, designing solutions, or developing applications in healthcare.
• 5 years of experience translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications.
• 5 years of ability to produce fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code.
• 1 year of experience with Machine Learning, particularly in Natural Language Understanding, Machine Translation, Deep Neural Networks, and related fields.

• Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodology.
• Interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, unit testing, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Strong track record in designing and implementing large-scale consumer-facing applications.
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Passion for user experience and improving usability.
• Experience and willingness to mentor junior engineers and develop their skills.

Pay

Base pay range: $102,700.00 – $164,600.00. Pay is determined by qualifications, experience, expected contributions, internal peer equity, market considerations, and geographic location.
