The company is transitioning from a tool to a comprehensive environment, requiring the development of advanced features, efficient orchestration of large-scale language model operations, and maintaining low latency. We are seeking a senior engineer to lead the development of core functionalities and infrastructure.

- Build Elicit into a product that researchers can't live without
- Ship useful, exciting features weekly
- Work on a mix of known features, prototypes, and exploratory projects
- Contribute to discussions around UX, system design, and architecture

What you bring to the role
- Strong technical aptitude, comfortable with backend and frontend development in Python, JavaScript, and related technologies
- Professional experience in software development teams at mid-career to senior levels
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex engineering concepts to stakeholders
- Experience with language models, including asynchronous programming and error handling
- A passion for technology and a commitment to delivering high-quality products

Location and travel
We have a great office in Oakland, CA, and we'd love to see you there if you're local. Remote work is also an option, with quarterly in-person offsites.

Compensation
We target starting ranges of:
- Senior (L4): $200-260k + equity
- Expert (L5): $250-300k + equity
- Principal (L6): >$760 + significant equity
