Overview

BHYBRID BETHESDA MD is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) by designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining enterprise applications and application infrastructure supporting scientific research and administrative operations. This position is responsible for supporting SharePoint, Drupal, Azure cloud environments, workflow automation platforms, and application infrastructure while ensuring secure, reliable, and highly available services that comply with NIH and HHS standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with application developers, database administrators, cybersecurity teams, infrastructure engineers, and Government stakeholders to modernize and maintain enterprise applications supporting NIH's research mission.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, administer, configure, patch, and upgrade SharePoint Server environments, including SharePoint 2016, 2019, Subscription Edition (SE), and SharePoint Online.
  • Configure and administer SharePoint Online site collections, permissions, web parts, and application integrations.
  • Plan and execute migrations from on-premises SharePoint environments to SharePoint Online.
  • Configure and manage Microsoft Power Gateway to support enterprise reporting and application integrations.
  • Create and manage Azure Resource Groups, Virtual Machines, storage resources, and associated cloud infrastructure.
  • Configure and maintain Network Security Groups (NSGs) and firewall rules supporting secure Azure-hosted applications.
  • Configure and manage F5 Silverline Web Application Firewall (WAF), SSL profiles, threat protection policies, and related security configurations.
  • Troubleshoot application, firewall, authentication, and connectivity issues across cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Support Azure-hosted application environments, including configuration, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform application platform patching, software upgrades, and production deployments.
  • Support Security Assessment and Authorization (A&A), Authorization to Operate (ATO), FISMA compliance activities, and security documentation.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to remediate vulnerabilities and maintain secure application environments.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation guides, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in production support, scheduled maintenance windows, and on-call support activities as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • More than 5 years of experience architecting, administering, patching, and configuring SharePoint on-premises environments, including SharePoint 2016, 2019, Subscription Edition (SE), and SharePoint Online (SPO).
  • Experience configuring SharePoint Online and migrating SharePoint sites from on-premises environments to SharePoint Online.
  • Experience configuring and managing Microsoft Power Gateway.
  • At least 5 years of experience configuring, administering, and upgrading Nintex K2 workflow automation solutions.
  • Experience configuring and managing F5 Silverline Web Application Firewall (WAF), SSL profiles, threat protection settings, and troubleshooting firewall and connectivity issues.
  • More than 5 years of experience supporting Drupal 8, 9, 10, and 11 environments hosted in Microsoft Azure, including creating Resource Groups, provisioning Virtual Machines, configuring associated Azure resources, and managing firewall rules through Network Security Groups (NSGs).
  • More than 5 years of experience supporting FISMA Security Assessment and Authorization (A&A) activities for federal information systems.
  • Experience managing servers and application infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex application, infrastructure, authentication, and networking issues.
  • Experience developing technical documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NIH, HHS, or other Federal Government environments.
  • Experience supporting Azure App Services, Azure Key Vault, Azure Private Link, and Managed Identities.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Entra ID authentication and federated identity solutions.
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience supporting enterprise .NET applications.
  • Microsoft SharePoint, Azure, or Nintex certifications are highly desirable.
