Senior Software Engineer
BorgWarner Drivetrain & Morse Systems is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Software Development Engineer to join our Application Engineering organization at our Propulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills, MI. This role focuses on developing and deploying embedded software solutions for BorgWarner AWD products in a professional, high-tech environment.
About the role
The Software Development Engineer will specify, design, develop, test, release, maintain, and enhance embedded software components for BorgWarner’s AWD products. Development will utilize Model-Based Design, autocode generation, and embedded C programming, following the BorgWarner software development process compliant with Automotive SPICE. The successful candidate will collaborate with a talented team to meet program goals, maintain schedules, and resolve development challenges.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and estimate software development activities and tasks.
- Elicit, analyze, decompose, develop, and manage software requirements.
- Identify and define software units, documenting detailed design.
- Develop software units using Model-Based Design, autocode generation, and embedded C programming.
- Plan, develop, and execute unit and integration tests according to project test plans.
- Perform root cause analysis and problem resolution for identified issues.
- Support, maintain, and update planning and tracking activities, including work items, change requests, and defects.
- Store and manage work products according to the Configuration Management plan.
- Establish bi-directional traceability between software work products.
- Perform consistency checks and peer reviews of software work products.
- Support open communication within the team and adhere to company processes.
- Propose and implement process improvements.
- Collaborate with other BorgWarner engineers and departments to meet program goals and resolve development issues.
- Document and share best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Communication, or Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of professional experience developing embedded software using the C programming language in automotive, aerospace, commercial machinery, or rail industries.
- 5+ years of professional experience utilizing Matlab/Simulink for embedded software development on production projects.
- Experience configuring or interfacing with an AUTOSAR software stack.
- Experience with auto-generation of embedded C source code from model-based designs using dSPACE Targetlink or Matlab Embedded Coder.
- Experience with software design verification through unit testing in Simulink or Embedded test framework environments (MIL, SIL).
- Hands-on experience debugging and correcting model and source code defects using embedded debugging tools on target.
- Experience adhering to an ASPICE-compliant software development process.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with automotive electrical and mechatronic embedded systems (e.g., brush/brushless DC motors, solenoids, relays).
- Expertise working with network protocols (e.g., CAN) and associated tools.
- Experience developing software in an AUTOSAR-compliant architecture.
- Experience developing software for ISO26262 Functional Safety-compliant products.

Pay
Salary Range: $100,800 - $141,750
