Senior Software Engineer (AI Development Enablement Lead)
CGI Federal is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) and proven hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools in day-to-day engineering work. This role plays a critical role in modernizing SSA's development ecosystem by teaching, guiding, and enabling SSA software developers to adopt AI coding assistants and AI-powered development workflows. The engineer will support AI-assisted development across programming languages, frameworks, and environments while providing infrastructure support, developer enablement, documentation, and governance-aligned guidance.
Note: This position is onsite 5 days a week at the customer site in Woodlawn, MD.
Responsibilities
- Software Engineering Leadership & AI Development Enablement
- Provide hands-on mentorship to SSA software developers, demonstrating how to use AI coding assistants and AI development tools within real SSA workflows.
- Teach best practices for integrating AI-assisted development into each phase of the SDLC (requirements, design, coding, testing, deployment, maintenance).
- Lead modernization efforts by helping developers adopt AI-assisted patterns for code generation, refactoring, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting.
- Evaluate SSA applications and recommend opportunities to embed AI development tools for improved productivity, maintainability, and quality.
- Stay current with AI development frameworks, tools, methodologies, and industry advancements.
- Hands-on experience with modern AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q Developer, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist (experience can be in any of these or similar tools but must include daily active usage).
- AI Software Licensing & Infrastructure Support
- Manage procurement, licensing, configuration, maintenance, and performance monitoring of AI-related tools and software.
- Support server, storage, network, and cloud environments required for AI workloads.
- Recommend scaling strategies as AI adoption grows.
- End User Support, Training & Documentation for AI Tools
- Develop and deliver training materials, workshops, and instructional guides for SSA developers adopting AI-assisted development.
- SDLC Support & Engineering Quality Assurance
- Help SSA teams incorporate AI-assisted testing, AI-supported code analysis, automated documentation, and AI-driven optimization techniques.
- Governance, Compliance & Reporting
- Support creation and maintenance of governance frameworks aligned with SSA policies and federal regulations.
Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain US Public Trust Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree + 7 years of IT experience.
- Senior-level software engineering expertise across the full SDLC.
- Hands-on daily experience using AI coding assistants and AI development tools (e.g., Amazon Q Developer, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini Code Assist).
- Experience supporting AI infrastructure (servers, networks, storage, cloud).
- Familiarity with AI/ML platforms, licensing frameworks, and configuration management.
- Experience producing technical documentation and adhering to governance frameworks.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience supporting federal agencies and understanding of FedRAMP.
- Experience implementing AI COTS products in government environments.
- Experience in regulated environments with strict documentation discipline.
- Familiarity with AI/ML operational pipelines and lifecycle management.
Pay
A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $89,600.00 – $198,400.00.
