Senior Software Engineer, Ads Creative Effectiveness

About the role

The Ads Creative Effectiveness team is part of Reddit's creative strategy, focusing on developing Generative AI and predictive products to enhance ad creative. Our goal is to build tools that help advertisers craft impactful campaigns, leveraging Reddit's best practices and performance data.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of high-performance backends for ad creative generation, ensuring brand asset preservation and style consistency.
• Develop advanced editing and asset workflows, creating APIs and logic for complex asset manipulation while adhering to brand guidelines.
• Architect performance feedback systems that bridge ad performance data with creative generation, optimizing the generation process.
• Solve complex engineering challenges related to high-concurrency inference, latency optimization, and cost-efficient scaling.
• Design and maintain safety and compliance systems to filter and prevent non-compliant or infringing content.
• Partner with Product, UX, and Ads ML leadership to define the technical roadmap for the Ads Creative Effectiveness team, translating business objectives into technical designs.
• Ensure the integrity of the advertiser and user experiences by raising the bar for code quality, system reliability, and documentation.
• Mentor mid-level engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence within the team.

Requirements

• Expert Software Engineering & System Design: Extensive experience in architecting and scaling distributed backend systems, with a proven track record of designing robust microservices and APIs.
• Applied AI/ML Systems Engineering: Strong experience in bridging ML models with production software, including model serving, data pipelines, and real-time generative workflows.
• Strategic Product Engineering: Deep understanding of how technical decisions impact the business, partnering with Product to define scalable technical roadmaps that drive revenue and retention.
• Operational Excellence & Ownership: A startup mindset paired with senior-level discipline, prioritizing system reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability.
• Technical Leadership & Influence: Exceptional communication skills to build consensus across Product, Design, and ML teams, explaining complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentorship & High Standards: Passion for raising the engineering bar, conducting thorough design and code reviews, and fostering a culture of technical excellence.
• Domain Expertise in Creative Tooling: Proven experience building complex asset-heavy systems, such as automated image/video processing pipelines or high-scale content creation workflows.
