Senior Software Development Engineer, AWS Security

Come and build innovative services that protect our cloud from advanced security threats! As a Senior Software Development Engineer you’ll help build and manage services that detect and automate the mitigation of cybersecurity threats across Amazon’s infrastructure, including advanced persistent threats. You’ll work with security engineers and data scientists, and help lead other software development engineers across multiple teams to develop innovative security solutions at massive scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with data scientists and security engineers to build automated security detection and mitigation workflows
• Design scalable architectures for low‑latency, big‑data processing
• Improve the observability, performance, and efficiency of existing systems
• Raise the bar for testing, repeatability, automation, and operational excellence
• Serve as a team and tech lead
• Mentor and develop teammates, both technically and professionally
• Seek out, develop, and advocate for new technologies

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
• 4+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of full software development life‑cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
• Experience processing, filtering, and presenting large quantities (hundreds of millions/billions of rows) of data
• Experience productionizing, maintaining, and/or monitoring GenAI or other AI/ML models or applications
• Experience working with cybersecurity teams

About the Team

Our group is part of the larger “Amazon Active Defense” organization, focused on bringing automation at scale to AWS Security. Teams within Amazon Active Defense consist of security engineers, data/applied scientists, and software developers, all working together to create big‑data analytics that automatically detect and mitigate threats within AWS in near‑real‑time. This group specifically focuses on detecting and disrupting advanced actor activities in internal (Amazon‑owned) AWS resources.

Pay

Seattle, WA – $168,100.00 to $227,400.00 USD annually. Compensation includes sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
